Autoimmune Arthritis diseases are systemic illness that affect the entire body.
You can't have it just in your knee.

World Autoimmune Arthritis Day (WAAD)
Join Us May 20th, 2012 for a global, ONLINE awareness event hosted by IAAM and co-hosted by other groups and organizations in the Autoimmune Arthritis community!
World Autoimmune Arthritis Day was established in 2012 by IAAM and will be celebrated each year on May 20th. Because the term "arthritis" covers over 100+ conditions that involve joint pain, Autoimmune Arthritis Diseases are a small group of like illnesses that share both symptoms and treatment methods. By creating a separate day for this group, awareness about these specific, systemic, and sometime deadly diseases can finally be brought to a global level.
May 20th was selected because on this day in 2012 the 1st solar eclipse of the 21st century will occur- so why not start changing the world on a day the world is shifting naturally anyway?
What Will Happen on World Autoimmune Arthritis Day?
This day is designed to raise awareness about Autoimmune Arthritis diseases, specifically that they are not the same as having "arthritis", or only joint involvement.
WAAD will be celebrated as a 47 hour interactive, online event consisting of a series of scheduled awareness activities, posts and even sessions where you can join in on conversations about Autoimmune Arthritis diseases. It will begin at midnight of the first World Time Zone and end at 11:59 of the last World Time Zone.

"There were a lot of points in my history where a simple inquiry by a well educated primary doctor or podiatrist could have saved me from years of pain and frustration. Also, had I any clue or understanding that toenails could crumble and deform via processes other than fungal infections I would have searched out an answer for it years ago. I had very clear, classical signs of psoriatic arthritis from the time my ankle swelled up in my early twenties - it didn't have to go so long without being diagnosed. "

Feature Story #6: Countdown to WAAD- 3 Days!
Ronan may just have been an example of ‘being born with Autoimmune Arthritis’. He was seemingly in pain since birth, unable to sleep, constant crying and as a baby he experienced high fevers, sweating and rashes. Blood tests and x-rays "were normal" so not much was done until his joints started visibly swelling and injuries were eventually ruled out. Over 2 ½ years of waiting, the parents finally received a diagnosis of Juvenile Arthritis.

Help IAAM with World Autoimmune Arthritis Day by either downloading and sending Kristi's poster to people you know OR bring awareness about YOUR OWN Autoimmune Arthritis disease so others can learn more about your journey. Posting and sending these advertisements will accomplish the following:
To Make Your Own Poster OR Facebook Timeline Ad: You must have software on your computer that allows you to add multiple images (photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, Power Point, etc). If you do not have the technology or expertise to create your own poster we will make it for you (see the big ? below for details).
Make Your Own:
1. Click on one of the two templates of your choice (to the left), which you will save as a photo and this will be used as the backdrop of your poster.
2. Another screen will open. Save the image to your computer as a jpeg.

Once saved, import this image into any photo program on your computer and add your photos. PLEASE VIEW GUIDELINES BELOW REGARDING PHOTO LAYOUT AND PHOTOS TO SELECT.

3. This is an example of how to lay out your poster. It is not the template- download the one with the plain background as your template. You may click on it to enlarge.
4. Please read the following GUIDELINES to ensure we all create posters that together create one, unified message of awareness.
FACEBOOK TIMELINE AD Template! Choose either design.
NOTE: DO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN LOWER LEFT CORNER, YOUR PROFILE PIC WILL COVER IT UP.

GUIDELINES
1. Choose your photos. Please only use 2-5 images. More will cause the poster to appear cluttered. ONLY ONE of the images can be what IAAM calls a Headshot “Smiling” Photo. If you use a face photo it should be used as the top right image. This is done because the focus should be on the disease, not necessarily the smiling face, in order to show the realities of Autoimmune Arthritis. These are NOT aimed to be "depressing" or "negative". They should make you feel good about your disease- from the struggle to the successes!
2. Lay out your photos. As mentioned above, if you use a Headshot it should be in the top right position. The Center Photo should be the "Impact" image. Choose the photo that encompasses the disease the best visually. Other photos should be showing something about the disease: demonstrating inflammation, fatigue, fevers, flu-like symptoms, rashes, medications, mobility equipment, etc, and you can also show how you cope/deal (pets, exercise, etc.) It's YOUR story, just be REAL!
3. Do not change any text or alter the logo in any way. If you choose not to download our template, but to create a similar poster from scratch, please copy all text exactly as you see it on the template. All verbiage on all posters circulating must match.
4. List your Autoimmune Arthritis OR Related Disease. There are 9 Primary Autoimmune Arthritis diseases, as determined by a Rheumatology Board and IAAM in 2010. They are:
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
Still's Disease (SD)
Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA)
Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (SLE)
Primary Sjogren's Syndrome (SS)
Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)
Juvenile Arthritis (JA)
Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD)
Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease (UCTD)
If your disease is not on this list it means in over 90% of all cases major joint involvement is not present. But if it is an Autoimmune Disease that has a symptom of arthritis, like Scleroderma, Crohn's or Wegener disease for examples, that is considered a "Related Disease". Reactive Arthritis is also considered a "Related Disease" because Primary Autoimmune Arthritis diseases cannot be cured. So if your disease is a "Related Disease", please add it as such (Example: Scleroderma, Related Disease)
5. Save, print, post, send! Once your poster is finished please start spreading the word about WAAD. Please preface all communications by stating why you want people to know about WAAD and to please visit www.causes.com/WorldAutoimmuneArthritisDay to donate $5 for the cause. Together we can flood the internet with our stories!
I WANT IT PUBLISHED! If you would like your poster shown on the WAAD and IAAM Facebook page, email us a jpeg to tiffany@IAAMovement.org!
Make it for me!
Want to create a poster but you don't have the graphic capabilities? That's ok! We have a team of volunteers waiting to help you create your poster! Just email posters@IAAMovement.org with the following information:
1. The name of the person in the poster.
2. The name of the disease and age of onset or diagnosis.
3. 3-5 photos, including one Headshot. PLEASE NOTE WE MUST RECEIVE PHOTOS OF GOOD POSTER QUALITY (not blurry, grainy, etc). If your photo is not usable we will inform you to reselect.
4. We will email your completed poster back to you as soon as possible, estimated up to 48 hours after submission. This will be sent in jpeg form.
Please note: This is a service to help you create your own poster. If you want us to publish your poster on the public Facebook sites you will need to grant IAAM permission to do so. Otherwise we will send you back your jpeg for personal use only. We will not save, share or use these photos for any other purpose. Volunteers will create one version of your poster based on the photos you provide. We are not staffed as a full design service for reworking the layout or 2nd round edits so each submission will only receive assistance one time per poster submission.
If you create your own version of the WAAD Poster please follow the same guidelines listed above and don't forget to make sure you use a purple or blue background! Here is the WAAD logo and ribbon for download:
